After a wonderful kickoff last week, the Rosedale Farmer’s Market is back for the season with kale, collards, farm-fresh eggs, jams and jellies, beautiful vegetable and flower transplants, specialty chocolates (perfect for Mother’s Day) and more!  Please join us to shop, try our vegetable of the week (spinach), play some games with your kids, and hang out with your friends and neighbors.  We’ll see you there!

34 days until Market Season!

April 2, 2012

This warm weather has us fooled.  I feel like it should be summer already!  Luckily, we’ve got stuff growing under lights and in the garden to be ready for the Rosedale Farmers Market opening day on May 6.  What are you most looking forward to buying locally?

We are still accepting vendor applications for the market – you can download an application here.

See you in 34 days!

Now accepting applications!

March 3, 2011

We just sent out the call for applications for the 2011 season, and can’t wait to hear who responds!  We’re very excited for this year’s market already, even though it’s two months away.  We know those two months are going to fly by…

Also this week we plan to erase (!) our big board of farmers market activities from last year.  We’re sad to see it go, but excited to fill it up with this year’s plans and dreams.

Snow snow snow…

February 2, 2011

Today’s the kind of day when you can’t help but dream of the summer months of the Rosedale Farmers Market.  We have our first board meeting of 2011 this week, and will start planning for the official market launch on May 1.  We can’t wait, and hope you are also eagerly awaiting its arrival!

In the meantime, check out upcoming events from our friends at the Rosedale Healthy Kids Initiative.

Honey, I canned the pickles!

August 9, 2010

For the last two weeks Les has brought honey in all sizes of containers (as well as candles), produced on his honey farm in Independence. Worried about “colony collapse”? Talk to Les and get the lowdown. You’ll be surprised by what he says!

Yes, You Can CAN!
Talk to growers about buying veggies in bulk for canning and preserving. Now’s the time to start preserving food for the winter. (Yes, it is right around the corner … well, maybe down the block!)
Family Fun

At least we can look forward to the cooling breezes of autumn with a game of Bobbing for Apples!

Don’t forget!

SNAP customers get double value on produce all summer long!

We’ll see you Sunday!

What’s this about Royals tickets?

Are you ready to get up close with the hottest team in the AL Central? A generous friend of the Market has donated four seats to the July 21 day game versus Toronto. These seats are 25 rows directly behind the Royals dugout and best of all — are in the shade! A deluxe parking pass is even included for easy in-and-out.

Stop by our Information table on Sunday and bid on these great seats. The tickets and parking retail for more than $150, but the right bid will get you a day at the “K” for a nice price. The Royals may be hot hot hot, but you’ll have it made in the shade … and all the proceeds go to the Rosedale Healthy Kids Initiative!

SNAP customers get Double Value

Spread the word! Customers using EBT cards for SNAP benefits get double value all summer long, thanks to the Beans ‘n’ Greens program, sponsored by the Menorah Legacy Foundation.

What else is at the Market this week?

  • Free Gardening Help! K-State Research and Extension Experts will be on hand to answer your questions.
  • Free Cooking Lesson! Not sure what to do with all this great produce? Fresh Fest is showing you how to whip up one delicious recipe every week. This Sunday, experience divine stuffed bell peppers!
  • For the kids … there’s a Coloring Contest!
  • Live music, even! Come hear folk artist Emily Tummons.

We’ll see you Sunday!

July 4 – Independence from Non-Local Food Day!

July 6, 2010

I can’t think of a more perfect way to celebrate the fourth of July than being surrounded by local farmers and local produce.  This week we had voter registration at the Community Resource table, patriotic fruit parfaits and film canister rockets at the Family Fun table, and a fabulous mayo-free potato salad at the Fresh Fest.  Check out the photos from the market on our Flickr stream – I tried to document some of the beautiful produce for sale!

We’re looking forward to the coming weeks at the market, and our grateful to Diane and Aaron for taking charge of the weekly market e-newsletter.  If you haven’t already signed up, use the form below.

June 27 – Report from the market

June 27, 2010

What a wonderful day! We were so excited to have the Beans and Greens crew with us to celebrate the official launch of the double value SNAP coupons, and we were honored to have Commissioner John Mendez join us as well.  Gayla and Jenn with Beans and Greens brought beautiful balloons and t-shirts with their new logo, giving quite the festive atmosphere to the market.  Gayla, Commissioner Mendez, Board Chair Chris Alliman and Rosedale Development Association director Wendy Wilson spoke about their hopes for the double value and for the future of healthy foods in Rosedale.

KCTV 5 joined the celebration as well and showed the Rosedale Farmers Market several times on the evening news.  We hope to be able to post a link to the footage soon, but for now, check out the photos on Flickr!
